Women's Empowerment Program
Just like women in many developing countries, the women in the Democratic Republic of the Congo often carry a heavy burden. We are committed to empowering women by funding grassroots and small business initiatives.
Through this program, women undergo job training and are provided with financial or physical support on small business development.
How do we help women?
Female entrepreneurs can start a business they with support from CORI by requesting items and funds. We have helped launch small business operations of food, clothing, or other retail and household goods. We have also helped launch alterations and textile shops.
Entrepreneurs will also become a part of a supportive entrepreneurial community to ensure their company’s sustainability over time.
Each year, CORI hosts Emelie's Tea to support women in the Congo.
This is a bi-annual fundraising tea party in honor of an amazing woman, Emilie Kabamba Bulungo.
Emelie helped to establish the Women’s Empowerment Program for CORI. Emilie put her well-honed sewing skills to use and taught many vulnerable girls in her community not only how to sew, but also how to start and run a business. Most importantly, she established herself as a mentor for them, mothering them through the difficulties of loss and the process of becoming women.
Emilie’s Tea proceeds fund all CORI programs that uplift and support women to become self-sustaining, healthy, and successful.
